I just have one more strength training session tonight to have met the requirements for week 1. This will have been my first full week of exercise since I tore my ACL in 2003.

My second work out of the week was a 7am sunrise run on the beach in Mexico. Tomorrow will be a flexibilty and strength training session at the gym at Mayan Palace. It's been a while since I've done one of those. Hello Ibuprofen!

So, I have gotten an okay start on the cardio and flexibility. I worked out yesterday and the day before and will today before I go to bed. I am getting my heart rate monitor battery replaced tonight to make sure I am sticking to what I need to, but have found I am so out of shape that anything moderate for other people is fairly difficult for me.

Me and Flyboy are the only two that have posted workouts so far. Since it's Friday, I'm thinking we're going to be throwing a pile of money into the forum kitty. Sweet!

Way to jump in with both feet- but don't kill yourself in the process! For your next session, see if you can do 30 minutes holding at 145-150. Start slow and try to build up to 145 by the end of 5 minutes, then hold that rate for at least 20 minutes, then cool down in the 120-130 range for 5 minutes. That's also a good time to stretch a bit to improve flexibility.

20 minutes for you on the elliptical machine with a heart monitor. The whole time my heart rate was above 160. I went 1.5 miles. good start. I still say that Eric is a workout Nazi!!

There's a "fun" race Thursday morning if anyone wants to come up to Park City for their pre-dinner exercise.
You'd be surprised to see your average heart rate for something like raquetball. To get the benefit, you have to keep your heart rate elevated for that amount of time continuously. Intervals are also great, but they are of higher value when your heart rate stays elevated for 2-3 minutes, rather than just short bursts. This is picking at nits, however.
If you want to see how many calories different activities burn on average, go to the following link: www.caloriesperhour.com. It's very educational to figure our how many calories you need to consume for your lifestyle. Then compare that to how many you actually eat, and you'll know why Americans are fat. -

I played hard core raquetball this morning for an hour and a half. I still need to get my heart monitor, but I'm sure 20 minutes of that had to have been at 85%. We picked a tough week to start this program, but it will give us good incentive to get up early and exercise on Thursday. Friday might be another story...

Who isn't in Mexico? I had to settle for some great bike rides and trail runs in St. George, not to mention some marathon dirt bike sessions : )
If you can stick to the exercise habit while traveling, you're on your way. I don't like running much, but it's often the only option when I travel on business.
