What is iStats and why should I use it?

iStats is a new web-based fitness tracking application that makes exercise fun and exciting. iStats allows you to visually track your performance in workouts per week, weight and per exercise. iStats Teams allows you to find others to help motivate you, compare progress & organise workouts.

Why will using iStats help me get in better shape?

Many studies have shown that setting goals and tracking progress is a great way to keep you motivated. However, most people who do track their fitness progress still do it with a pen or a pencil. Tracking fitness online makes it easier to view progress over time and keep track of more health statistics. In addition, the use of the Internet as a social medium has created new ways for people to interact with others and information, and iStats uses those strengths to your advantage.

How do I know what exercises to perform?

iStats has a large exercise directory that has been created by other iStats users to help guide your exercise routine. If you can’t find the exercise your looking for, you can easily create it without leaving the workout enter page.

When will iStats officially launch?

We are working hard to get iStats ready for the public. We are currently in a testing phase with limited users. We will make public launch annoucements on our website. You can subscribe to our RSS feed for updates.

How much will it cost?

iStats is currently in beta testing, and as such, all use of the iStats site is free of charge. In the future, it is our plan to offer most of the iStats services for free. We do, however, reserve the right to start charging for some of the advanced services. We may also utilise advertising from a 3rd party or to feature other Novanate projects. All users will be notified of this change well in advance of any change to pricing policy.

What are the pictures on this site? They make no sense!

Our pictures are retrieved from the Flickr web service, as such we have no control over them and the Flickr service doesn’t seem to be that great. We’re working on narrowing down the search keywords for each exercise so the relevant pictures will be returned one by one. We will be uploading iStats exercise photos once we can find the time. If you have any photos you would like us to use, please send them to us.

How is the iStats effort graph calculated?

The iStats effort graph is calculated by using formulas assigned to each exercise, which is calculated from the data you input when entering a workout. For example the bench press effort is calculated by multiplying the Reps * Weight * Number of Sets.

We realise that some exercises require more effort than others, which can result in odd ways the effort graph is displayed. If you think your graph is not displaying accurately please contact us, we will look at your graph and your exercises and improve the formulas for each exercise. The added benefit of this is that other member’s will benefit from your feedback.

How do I delete my account?

First of all, why would you want to? If that question didn’t put you off, you can submit some feedback asking us to cancel your account and we will do so ASAP. We would appreciate any reasoning why you would want your account cancelled, most often we will go to the ends of the earth with new features, bug fixes and custom manual data entry labour to keep you on!
